Squirrels

Big Adventures for Little Explorers

Squirrels are the newest and youngest members of the Scouts family, welcoming children aged 4 to 6 years old.

Our Squirrel Drey meets every Friday for 45 minutes, providing a safe, fun-filled space for young children to make friends, explore their world, and start developing skills for life.

Activities and Adventures

Each week is a new adventure!

Our Squirrels take part in age-appropriate activities designed to inspire creativity, spark curiosity, and build confidence. Activities include:

  • Exploring the outdoors – from nature trails to mini-beast hunts.
  • Getting creative – with crafts, painting, and building.
  • Storytelling and songsbringing imaginations to life.
  • Team games and fun challengeshelping Squirrels learn to work together.
  • Helping in the communitylearning how small actions can make a big difference.

Sleepovers are a real highlight – for many Squirrels, it’s their first night away from home, and it helps build independence in a gentle, supportive environment.

Our programme focuses on learning by doing, ensuring Squirrels are always engaged, having fun, and gaining valuable skills along the way.

Awards and Badges

At Squirrels, it’s all about trying your best and having fun.

Squirrels can earn badges and challenge awards that celebrate their progress and achievements. Whether it’s learning something new, being kind to others, or exploring their creativity, there’s always something to strive for.

The badges encourage children to be proud of their efforts, while inspiring a love for learning and discovery.

The Squirrel Scout Promise

Making a promise is a special part of becoming a Squirrel Scout. It’s a chance for each child to show they’re ready to do their best and be kind.

There are different versions of the promise to reflect the variety of faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds in our community. You can see them all here.

We usually use this version:

I promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
And to love my God.

This simple promise helps Squirrels begin to understand the values of Scouting, including kindness, respect, and doing their best.

Uniform

Our Squirrel Scouts wear a bright red sweatshirt, representing their energy and excitement. This is paired with the group’s green and blue scarf (known as a necker) and a coloured woggle to show which Nest they belong to.

Uniforms and other items can be purchased from the Scout Shop on London Road, Camberley (next to the TA Headquarters). The shop is open during term time on Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm.

We also offer second-hand uniforms upon request, to ensure every family feels welcome and included.

You can see where badges go on the uniform here.
