Developing Skills for Life
Scouts is for young people aged 10½ to 14 years old. It’s all about building confidence, gaining independence, and developing essential life skills. Scouts have the chance to explore the outdoors, try new activities, and take on leadership roles, all while making friends and having fun.
Our Scout Troops meet every week, either on a Thursday or a Friday, and take part in an exciting and varied programme.
Activities and Adventures
The Scout section is where adventure truly begins. Scouts take part in a wide range of activities, from learning traditional Scouting skills like camping, survival, and cooking, to exciting outdoor challenges such as abseiling, canoeing, rock climbing, and zorbing.
Scouts gain independence by planning and leading their own projects, whether it’s organising a community event, running games for younger Scouts, or putting their outdoor skills to the test on a hike or expedition.
There are also opportunities for international trips, offering life-changing experiences and the chance to meet Scouts from around the world.
Camps and residential experiences are a big part of Scouts. Whether it’s a weekend under canvas, a week-long adventure camp, or a survival skills experience, Scouts learn to work together, develop resilience, and gain a sense of achievement.
Awards and Badges
Scouts are recognised for their efforts with a wide range of badges and awards. Whether they’re learning first aid, improving their map reading, mastering photography, or volunteering in the community, there’s a badge for it.
Participation is what matters – Scouts are encouraged to challenge themselves and try their best, rather than focus on being the best.
The top award in the Scout section is the Chief Scout’s Gold Award. Achieving this involves completing a series of challenge awards, covering outdoor skills, teamwork, leadership, and community action.

The Scout Promise
The Scout Promise is a personal commitment made by every Scout. There are several versions to reflect different faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds. You can find all versions here.
Unless requested otherwise, we usually use this version:
On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best
to do my duty to God
and to the King,
to help other people
and to keep the Scout Law.
The Scout Law
The Scout Law is a set of values that guide Scouts in their daily lives:
- A Scout is to be trusted.
- A Scout is loyal.
- A Scout is friendly and considerate.
- A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts.
- A Scout has courage in all difficulties.
- A Scout makes good use of time and is careful of possessions and property.
- A Scout has self-respect and respect for others.
These values help shape confident, responsible young people, equipping them with the mindset to make a positive difference in the world around them.
Uniform
Scouts wear a teal green shirt or blouse, navy blue activity trousers, a green and blue Group scarf (often called a necker), a woggle and a Scout belt.
Uniform and other clothing items can be purchased from the Scout Shop located on London Road, Camberley, next to the TA Headquarters. It’s open during term time on Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. We also offer second-hand uniforms upon request to ensure everyone can get involved.
The location for Scout badges on the uniform can be found here.
