Cubs

Exploring, Growing, and Gaining Skills for Life

Cub Scouts, known as Cubs, are enthusiastic young people aged 8 to 10½ years old. Our Cubs meet for 1½ hours each week, either on a Thursday or Friday, to take part in an action-packed programme full of fun, challenges, and adventure.

Cubs is all about trying new things, making friends, and growing in confidence, while learning practical life skills that will stay with them forever.

Activities and Adventures

Every Cub meeting is different, and there’s something for everyone. Cubs will get stuck into all kinds of activities, including:

  • Exploring the outdoors: Building dens, lighting fires, and learning how to stay safe in the wild.
  • Developing practical skills: From map reading and first aid to cooking and problem-solving.
  • Adventurous experiences: Trying climbing, canoeing, archery, or navigating an obstacle course.
  • Camping and residential trips: Sleep under the stars on a weekend camp or join a Pack holiday, building independence and resilience.
  • Creative challenges: Taking part in craft projects, team games, and fun competitions.
  • Community action: Helping others, raising money for good causes, or planting trees.

At Cubs, we focus on giving young people the opportunity to learn by doing, while having loads of fun along the way.

Awards and Badges

There’s always something new to work towards at Cubs!

Cubs earn badges for trying their best and learning new skills – from learning about animals, trying photography, building models, to exploring the night sky.

Challenge Awards help Cubs develop in key areas like teamwork, leadership, and outdoor skills. The Chief Scout’s Silver Award is the top award Cubs can achieve, showing real commitment and determination across several Challenge Awards and Activity Badges.

The Cub Scout Promise and Law

Making a promise is a special part of becoming a Cub Scout. It’s a personal commitment to doing their best and living by our values.

There are several versions of the Cub Scout Promise, to respect the different faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds of our members. You can find all versions here.

Unless we are requested otherwise, we tend to use this version:

I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the King,
To help other people,
And to keep the Cub Scout Law.

The Cub Scout Law is a simple but important guide for Cubs:

Cub Scouts always do their best,
Think of others before themselves,
And do a good turn every day.

These principles encourage Cubs to be kind, helpful, and responsible, both in and outside of Scouting.

Uniform

Cubs wear a dark green sweatshirt with the green and blue Group scarf (necker) and a woggle in the colour of their Six (team).

Uniforms and other clothing items can be purchased from the Scout Shop on London Road, Camberley (next to the TA Headquarters). The shop is open during term time on Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. We also offer second-hand uniforms upon request, so that everyone can feel part of the Pack, no matter their circumstances.
