Beavers

Fun, Friendship, and Skills for Life

Beaver Scouts, known as Beavers are young adventurers aged 6 to 8.

They meet for an hour every week, either on a Tuesday or Thursday, to embark on exciting adventures, make friends and develop skills for life.

Beavers is all about having fun, trying new things and gaining confidence, while learning how to work as a team and help others.

Activities and Adventures

Every Beaver meeting is packed with fun and discovery. The programme is designed to ignite curiosity and creativity with activities both indoors and outdoors, including:

  • Exploring the great outdoors: Building dens, bug hunting, visiting parks, or going on mini hikes.
  • Adventurous experiences: Trying new challenges, such as low rope courses or water-based activities.
  • Creative fun: Arts and crafts, singing songs, playing games and taking part in team challenges.
  • Sleepovers and Camps: For many Beavers, their first night away from home is a huge adventurewhether sleeping in a hall with friends or camping under the stars.
  • Helping others: Supporting the community, litter picking, raising money for good causes, or visiting a local care home.

The focus is on having a go, working together and building confidence, all while having loads of fun!

Awards and Badges

Beavers earn badges and awards as they try new things and do their best.

There are Activity Badges for specific interests like cookery, cycling, or wildlife and Challenge Awards that help them develop across different areas like teamwork, leadership and outdoor skills.

The Chief Scout’s Bronze Award is the highest award a Beaver can earn. It recognises their commitment and achievements across all Challenge Awards and several Activity Badges.

More information on badges and awards for Beavers can be found here.

The Beaver Scout Promise

Making the Beaver Promise is a special moment for every young person joining Beavers. It marks their commitment to doing their best and being kind.

There are different versions of the Promise to respect the different faiths, beliefs and backgrounds of our members. You can view all versions here.

Unless requested otherwise, we typically use this version:

I promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
And to love my God.

This simple promise introduces Beavers to the values of Scouting, helping shape them into kind, thoughtful and helpful individuals.

Uniform

Beavers wear a bright turquoise sweatshirt, representing their energy and enthusiasm. This is paired with the green and blue Group scarf (necker) and a woggle in maroon or another colour, which represents their Lodge (small team).

Uniforms and other items can be purchased from the Scout Shop on London Road, Camberley (next to the TA Headquarters), open during term time on Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. Uniform can also be purchased from the online Scout shop at https://shop.scouts.org.uk/

We also offer second-hand uniforms upon request, ensuring every child can feel part of the Colony.

You can see where badges go on the uniform here.
